About the Tutors:

Alison Crowther-Smith is a Rowan Yarns Design Consultant. She has been working for Rowan since 2005. Alison has run many teach-ins and workshops and has produced a book for Rowan publications on Felting for Hand-Knitting, which is due to be published in early 2008.

Sue Hanmore is an extremely experienced knitter, having worked translating, checking and correcting patterns for organisations and designers such as Lana Grossa, Jean Moss and Artesano. Sue also works as the main knitter for Artesano.

Kirsty Thomson is the owner of the Five Valleys Design Studio. She has been knitting since the age of eight and therefore has vast knowledge of knitting skills and techniques. Kirsty is passionate about sharing her tips on knitting, which is evident in her inspirational workshops and teaching methods.

 

The Courses:

Learn to Knit I - 'The Fundamentals'. Teaching you all the basic, introductory level knitting skills. In this workshop you will learn different types of yarn, casting on and off, the importance of tension, knit and purl stiches, moss stitch and introduction to pattern reading and terminology. This knitting class is also ideal if you just want to 'brush up' on your existing skills or your skills are a little rusty. This workshops includes a pattern designed by Kirsty and wool to make a simple scarf.

Learn to Knit II - Beyond the Basics. In this workshop you will learn how to cast on for different projects, increasing and decreasing, shaping, button holes , pattern reading and abbreviations and simple lace stitches. This knitting class is ideal if you just want to brush up on exsisting skills or your knitting skills are a little rusty.

Learn to Knit III -Inspirational Knitting. This workshop introduces more textured stitches like bobbles and cabling. It also shows you how bring colour into your work. It is suitable for the knitter who knows how to to cast on/cast off and can 'knit' and 'purl' or for knitters looking for inspiration which is guaranteed at this exciting workshop

Learn to Knit Socks - If you can cast on, knit and purl and aren't afraid to tackle a set of double pointed needles, then this is a fun and exciting class to do! Find out about different sock patterns, yarns and how to turn a heel, with expert advice and step by step support. We are very excited to introduce Artesano's latest sock yarn, hummingbird at this workshop.

Kidsilk Haze - This workshop introduces knitters to the unique and beautiful Rowan yarn. You will be taught how to knit most effectively with Kidsilk Haze, including most suitable cast-on methods, tension options, applications for using the yarn, knitting with beads and sequins, simple lace stitches, picking-up and knitting for frills and edges, knitting frills and decorate after casting-off. After the knitting class you will be able to take home a free pattern and using your new skills and complete a Kidsilk Haze project.

All workshops are held between 10am-4pm. The cost for each course is £40 - includes materials [except needles], buffet lunch and refreshments plus 10% discount on yarns bought on the day.
